What is CRENESSITY? Is it a steroid?
CRENESSITY targets the hormone imbalances that drive excess androgens in people with classic CAH.
In CAH, overproduction of the hormone ACTH leads directly to excess production of androgens. And before CRENESSITY, excess androgens were the reason many people with classic CAH needed high doses of steroids.
CRENESSITY is the only treatment that targets ACTH overproduction at its source so that lower levels are being made and less ACTH is present throughout the body. As a result of less ACTH being made, the body also produces fewer androgens—which means it’s possible to lower steroid doses, too.

Will I be able to lower my steroid dose? How will I feel if my steroids get adjusted?
About a month after starting CRENESSITY, your doctor can begin to work with you on a plan to reduce your steroid dose over time, guided by your lab results and symptoms.
As your dose is lowered, you may experience steroid withdrawal symptoms, such as fatigue, nausea, or mood changes. These symptoms are temporary and usually improve within a few weeks to months.
CRENESSITY does not treat adrenal insufficiency and adrenal crisis, which are risks of CAH if steroid doses are too low.
In the clinical trial of adults with classic CAH, adrenal crisis occurred in two patients taking CRENESSITY and in no patients taking placebo. However, one patient on placebo did experience adrenal insufficiency.
